Shoulder Joint Arthroscopy Instruments
During shoulder arthroscopy, a small camera called an arthroscope is placed inside your shoulder joint. Camera-captured images can be displayed on a TV screen, and these images are used to guide microsurgical instruments.
Due to the small size of arthroscopes and surgical instruments, very small incisions are required instead of the larger incisions required for standard open surgery. This can reduce the patient's pain and shorten the time to recovery and return to favorite activities.
The cause of most shoulder problems is injury, overuse, and age-related wear and tear. Painful symptoms caused by damage to the rotator cuff tendon, glenoid, articular cartilage, and other soft tissue around the joint are mostly relieved by shoulder surgery.
Common arthroscopic surgical procedures include
- •Rotator Cuff Repair •Bone spur removal
- •Glenoid resection or repair •Ligament Repair
- •Resection of inflammatory tissue or loose cartilage •Recurrent shoulder dislocation repair
- •Certain surgical procedures: shoulder replacements, still require open surgery with larger incisions
