Most calcaneal fractures are occupational injuries caused by axial forces from a fall. Most are displaced intra-articular fractures (60%-75%). One study reported that among 752 calcaneal fractures that occurred over a 10-year period, the annual incidence of calcaneal fractures was 11.5 per 100,000 population, with a male-to-female ratio of 2.4:1. 72% of these fractures were caused by falls.

Treatment principles
